Notes–”All of the top achievers I know are life-long learners… looking for new skills, insights, and ideas. If they’re not learning, they’re not growing… not moving toward excellence.” -Dennis Waitley
I love this quote. When I read it this morning, it reminded me of G’s Instagram taken at her Oly lifting meet yesterday… a photo of a barbell, and some metal weights strewn around an old lifting platform, and her caption that read, “Every day I get a little bit better…”
I have now known G for a couple of years and I know that she is extremely disciplined and devoted to her training. She has Clean & Jerked and Snatched thousands of times over the last few years and done drill after drill on these lifts. I also know that she doesn’t PR every time she goes for a new max, yet she continues to show up and train… to make adjustments to her technique with the hope of adding a kilo or two to her best lifts (which are amazing, by the way… have you ever watched this girl snatch?). Her photo caption yesterday was a humble reminder to me that training is a process, even when I can’t see improvements on paper or on the whiteboard.
Regardless of how we do on any given day… whether we hit a new PR on a lift or in a workout, or not… we are still moving forward… still learning, be it a skill, or a lesson, or sometimes what not to do the next time around. If we are open and willing to learning and trying new things, rather than giving up when we feel stuck, we will get a little bit better. Every day.
