“No child should die in the dawn of life.” -Danny Thomas, St. Jude Founder
Well, we did it. You did it; $6,000+ dollars have been donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital on behalf of CrossFit Costa Mesa and our amazing group of members and coaches.
Thank you very much to all who participated, attended and donated. More info on St. Jude below.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital opened in 1962 and was founded by the late entertainer Danny Thomas. Its mission is to find cures for children with cancer and other deadly diseases through research and treatment.
St. Jude is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never pay for treatment not covered by insurance. No family ever pays St. Jude for the care their child receives.
In the U.S., in children, more than 18,000 cases of cancer are diagnosed each year. Child cancer survival rates have increased from less than 20% when St Jude opened to almost 80% today.
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most common childhood cancer. ALL has seen an impressive improvement in the five-year survival rate from 4% when St. Jude opened in 1962 to 94% today.

CrossFit Costa Mesa had a great turnout for the second of three NLI events this weekend. We took to the OC Fairgrounds with a gang of people, both competing and spectating, and had some of the best showings in our gym’s history. The rain fell most of the day, but didn’t dampen our spirits as our athletes were doing great and the atmosphere amongst the crowd was strong.
Here’s how the (preliminary) results stacked up at the end of the day:
Aaron Harrell – 2nd
Alec Hanson – 69th
Nathan Contreras – 48th
Blake Wilson-Hayden – 59th
Dakota Conley – 104th
Carrie Chamberlain – 18th
Lindsay Schuil – 8th
Bobbie Eftekar – 10th
Kate Nelson – 55th
Katie Sandoval – 73rd
Editor’s Note: The rain came out early and down pretty hard so I had to put the camera away, sorry if you didn’t make the photo/video cut. I tried to get everyone.
